Strengthening Warehouse Security: Sorair Installs SORANET™ at Wincanton Facility

We’re pleased to announce the installation of our SORANET™ drone automation system at a Wincanton warehouse as part of an ongoing trial deployment. This initiative marks another step toward exploring how automation and aerial intelligence can support security and operations within the UK logistics sector.

About the Trial

The installation forms part of a trial programme designed to test and validate SORANET’s real-time aerial surveillance capabilities in a live operational environment. The goal is to better understand how autonomous drone technology can assist on-site teams with situational awareness, perimeter monitoring, and safety assurance, all while maintaining compliance under the UK’s SORA and BVLOS frameworks.

This collaboration was made possible through an introduction via the Freight Innovation Fund, which supports the adoption of emerging technologies across the UK freight and logistics industry.

About the Trial

The Installation

The Sorair team successfully deployed a SORANET-enabled drone system on-site, integrating the docking unit, control software, and live data telemetry. The installation was completed smoothly, without disrupting day-to-day warehouse operations.

Following configuration and testing, the system is now operating under real-world BVLOS VM conditions, allowing flights to be conducted through Sorair’s BVLOS Flight School programme, which operates under Sorair’s CAA-recognised Operational Authorisation

This allows Sorair to safely conduct BVLOS  operations, gathering valuable data to refine automation workflows and assess how SORANET can enhance existing security frameworks.

BVLOS Operations Under Sorair Flight School

This deployment also represents another milestone for Sorair Flight School, which operates under Sorair’s CAA-recognised Operational Authorisation for Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations.

Through this authorisation, Sorair has been able to self-declare its BVLOS activities under a UK-wide Visual Mitigation (VM) framework, in full alignment with CAA regulations. This enables the safe execution of real-world BVLOS missions within controlled environments such as the Wincanton site — allowing us to validate automation workflows, refine operational procedures, and enhance pilot training.

What This Means Going Forward

This deployment represents an exciting opportunity to explore how drone-in-a-box technology can enhance security operations within logistics and warehousing environments. Early results highlight the potential for drones to complement human teams through improved visibility, automation, and data-driven insights.

We look forward to building on these learnings — continuing to develop safe, compliant, and scalable drone solutions that support the next generation of logistics and site security operations.
